LARAMIE, WY—Wyoming Humanities (formerly the Wyoming Humanities Council) announces the launch of its new thinkWY brand and website. For 46 years Wyoming Humanities has served Wyoming communities through educational outreach opportunities, grants to cultural and educational nonprofits, and public programs that bring communities together to experience and discuss our shared humanity. With new program lines and a reformatting of older programs, Wyoming Humanities’ new focus asks Wyoming communities to “Take a Closer Look” at the conversations and belief systems we navigate on a daily basis. From social issues and the partisan rhetoric that is dominating our politics, to uncovering the deeper meanings and less understood parts of our shared histories and philosophies, the humanities are a practical and necessary part of our lives that change the way we think about and interact with the world at large.
Hosted at www.thinkWY.org, our new website, with an aesthetically striking design by Orijin Media, focuses on the events we support around the state in a clearer and more user-friendly interactive manner. Non-profits and agencies looking for funding and potential programs to offer in their communities will also be able to navigate the site easier than before. However, the most exciting feature of the new website comes in the form of our new blog A Closer Look. A Closer Look will provide thought-provoking features by staff, board members, and thought leaders across the state to inspire public comment and discussion.
Of the new programs under the branding, thinkWY Insight, a partnership with the University of Wyoming’s MFA Program in Creative Writing, will provide community members a fast-paced, mixed-media storytelling platform to share their stories about coming to a deeper understanding of the human experience. Similar to Ignite™, Insight presentations feature twenty-one slides automatically advancing every twenty seconds, a format that keeps presenters on their toes and makes for entertaining and enlightening evenings of community storytelling. With 7-10 of these seven-minute presentations, live music, and a cash bar, Insight nights fly by leaving you engaged, energized, and inspired for days.
Our thinkWY Gatherings feature 1-4 local thought leaders who share their expertise and passions in short presentations. While Insights are like flash narratives, Gatherings have more in common with long-form nonfiction essays. Communities interested in hosting a thinkWY Insight or thinkWY Gathering can contact us through the website.
With the new brand launch, Wyoming Humanities has one question to ask the public: What are the topics and stories that your community needs to examine? Contact us through the new website and let’s take a closer look at starting a conversation in your town.
Wyoming Humanities is a 501(c)(3) non-profit funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Wyoming State Legislature through the Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources, and through private donations.
